Psalm 138 (137): 1-2a; 2bc,3; 6,8bc. R. 8bc

Psalm 138 is a prayer of thanksgiving in which the psalmist praises the Lord for hearing his cry, proclaiming that ‘on the day I called, you answered’ and strengthened him in time of need. On this Sunday, the psalm’s trust in God’s faithful guidance complements Peter’s confession of Christ as the Son of the living God, preparing us to hear how the Lord builds his Church on the rock of faith and sustains it with steadfast love.
