Psalm 100 is a joyful call to worship, inviting all to come before the Lord with gladness, recognising that he is God, that he made us, and that we belong to him as the people he tends like a flock. On this Sunday, the psalm’s themes of joyful service and belonging to God echo the first reading’s description of Israel as God’s treasured possession, and the Gospel’s image of the crowds as sheep without a shepherd, preparing us to hear Christ send out his apostles to share his compassionate care with the world.
